I truly did enjoy “The Man Who Died Twice” and think 5 stars are warranted for this delightful story. I have to admit, the title did intrigue me, and throughout the story, I tried to figure out who had ‘died twice’? The author’s explanation of it at the very end was unexpected, yet made absolute sense.

Richard Osman’s writing makes for easy and enjoyable reading and I must confess, he had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. Together, the four friends made a formidable team, and between them end up solving the mystery of the alleged stolen diamonds, as well as uncovering the killer of the deaths which undoubtedly occur – well, let’s face it, you can’t have a ‘murder club’ without at least one or two deaths to be investigated! One of the things I loved best about this tale, was Joyce’s daily diary entries her observations were a delight. There are far too many characters to be listed here, even though each of them plays an integral and crucial role in the story.

He is being protected by a young woman, Poppy, who, at first appearances, would be more suited working at a florists, than being in charge of a man in hiding. He is currently in hiding and in fear of his life at having been accused of stealing diamonds worth twenty million pounds (Sterling) from Martin Lomax, a rather dangerous international money launderer.Įlizabeth meets up with Douglas in a nondescript apartment located in a retirement village on the south coast of England. The story commences with Elizabeth being contacted by her first husband, Douglas, who despite his age, appears to be a still serving member of MI5, though in some sort of trouble. The ‘Club’ is principally comprised of four senior citizens, all in their late 70s or early 80s: Elizabeth, a divorcee and one-time agent of the secret services, whose current husband, Stephen, is in the early stages of dementia Joyce, a widow and retired nurse Ron and Ibrahim. So, when the sequel appeared, namely “The Man Who Died Twice”, it seemed only fitting, to read it also and I’m so glad to have done so! The first time I read a book by Richard Osman was “The Thursday Murder Club” which, at the time, I found to be highly entertaining.
